Childbirth Classes

We started our childbirth classes this week! It was fun to meet some more couples that are due around the same time. We will see them each week for the next 6 weeks. So 15 minutes into the class, the teacher starts talking about the uterus and the cervix. She says that the cervix is shaped like the opposite of a penis. Then she picks up her pen and starts drawing a picture on the white board. She says, "see guys - here is your penis". I just lost it. I started giggling at couldn't stop. Rafael jokingly hit my leg and said "shhhh! Stop it!!" which made me laugh even harder. I had tears streaming down my face and as hard as I tried... it took me a good 10 minutes to regain my composure. I'm not sure I'm mature enough for childbirth class...haha!

They showed us a video of the stages of labor and a woman giving birth. I had to laugh when all the mom's moaned and groaned at the same time... it's hard to watch and imagine we have to go through that!

They had the boys wear the "empathy belly" to get a feel for what us women go through. What did Rafael do as soon as he put it on? Grab his boobs. Ahhh...men. Gotta love 'em. They also wanted to give us an idea of what it's like to manage pain - and we had to do shallow breathing while holding onto an ice cube for a minute straight. They had the boys do it too. Good times, good times...

I saw the doctor this morning and everything looks great - my belly is growing, hearbeat sounded great and I get to schedule another ultrasound at my next appointment! woohoo! I love ultrasounds.

Pam, you are so funny. Remember when you have a baby you can't really see it, and when the pain is at it's peak it is almost over till you get the next baby. Fun, fun, fun. So how does Rafael look pregnant? It is all so worth it. Days are going by so fast and HE will soon be keeping you up at night and helping himself you your milk. Eat lots of salad so you milk is full of vitamins. Have fun keeping him to yourself for a few more days. Mom

I almost wished they hadn't shown me the movies of childbirth in our class. I think it freaked me out more! The only people who will have that angle is your doctor and Rafael. Lucky you!

I am so excited for you!!! There is nothing like holding your little one for the first time! Keep us update... what an exciting time!

So many wonderful memories! I remember thinking my birthing classes were weird and awkward at times, and not feeling mature enough at all! But they're a big help in the end. I'm so excited for you! love jess
